About two week ago, in early November 2024, I saw a video of someone in an interesting costume. I looked at the comments talking about some guy called Megatron. "Cool" I thought "Might as well see if I like Transformers, I didn't like sonic and it would be fun to have something else to interact with" I did consider that I was busy with SH2, but I figured that it probably wouldn't amount to anything.
I started watching episodes of G1, I heard about that being the best place, and soon came to pick favourites among the bots. It was all very cartoony, and the animation was quite scuffed but I enjoyed it, and I still do. I heard the name "Starscream" in the first episode, thought I may have misheard it and then thought his voice was very annoying. It did not, however, take him long to win me over. He's a manipulative, backstabbing moron who at the same time comes up with good plans every once in a while. For anyone who doesn't know, he's the one with the crown and cape on this page.
He also tries to overthrow Megatron, the leader of the Decepticons, (Autobots are the "good guys" and Decepticons are the "bad guys". Optimus Prime leads the Autobots) on every possible occasion. If Megatron trips on something and lays down for a bit, about 2 seconds pass before Starscream declares; "MEGATRON IS DEAD. I, STARSCREAM, AM YOUR NEW LEADER" He often screws something up or gets put in his place when Megatron shows back up. He's honestly not that great of a leader. He's very interesting in general across the franchise, as regardless of how symathetic, goofy, menacing or evil he is portrayed, he's still so much fun to watch.
I also watched Transformers One after a couple of days. Genuinely such a great movie. D-16 is my favourite. Gotta love decending into violent extremism after having your whole reality shattered. Also, Sentinel Prime literally invented racism on Cybertron. That's quite messed up. Also the fact he's voiced by Jon Hamm does not help. I had a VERY strong Good Omens fixation at the start of 2022 and I am quite sure it changed my brain chemistry in some way, and the character he plays there (Gabriel) is super hateable. So it checks out.
Also Brian Tyree Henry had SUCH a great performance. Some of his lines are genuinely chilling. All the little visual details in D-16, and other characters is staggering. I notice new stuff all the time. ALSO ALSO ALSO Starscream showed up and that is genuinely the first time in my life I have enjoyed Steve Buscemi in any goddamn role. Sorry. He has been genuinely unfunny in anything I've seen him in. Also I am terrible at recognising celebrities. Did not even notice that Orion Pax was voiced by Chris Hemsworth. Maybe it's just because I'm not a simp.
